Through dirt I grow

Through dirt I grow is a book filled with poems about life and her painful thorns, her beauty and solid roots. How we, just like flowers, grow through dirt to turn into ourselves.

Through dirt I grow. To quote Laurie Jean Sennott, “Every flower must grow through dirt”. Flowers are considered an object of beauty and a sign of regrowth. They must grow through dirt to turn into their beautiful selves. And so do we.
Roses have beautiful petals, yet they have nasty thorns and strong roots. Through dirt I grow are poems about life and her painful thorns, soft petals and solid roots.

Janna den Hartog (1998) works at a school library and tries to share her love for books with the students. Janna has found herself through writing and reading about life. Relating to words from others made her feel seen, and she would love for her poems to be that for someone else. Softness and vulnerability are keywords in her life and, with that, also in her poems. Through dirt I grow is Janna her first book and she hopes that this is the first of many.
